5th Jan 2010 - Luke Presneill joins the South West APC England Team at the Lundaspelen 2010 Tournament in Sweden
Luke Presneill joined the SW APC England team in the Lundasplelen 2010 Basketball Tournament in Sweden. Luke, an U15/U16 Torbay Tiger joined up with the SW team at Gatwick Airport on New Years Day for the flight to Copenhagen. The Swedish Basketball Tournament runs from the 2nd – 5th January and is one of the largest basketball tournaments in Europe with 352 teams from 10 countries entering. Over 868 games will be played during the 4 day tournament.
There will be players from all over Europe playing in this tournament with the South West team fielding U15/U16 Boys and an U16 Girls team.
U15 South West team got through to the knock-out Group B play-off phase of the tournament. The team played very well during the play-off stages beating the Swedish Hogsboi Basket team 38 – 25 and then the Danish team Vaalose I 28 -22. This meant the SW team made it into Tuesday mornings B final against the strong German SC Rist Wedel basketball team who had beaten several good teams along the way to the final.
The final was a close quarter affair with both the English and the German team exchanging points regularly against each other. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife during the 2nd half of the game with SC Rist Wedel gaining a small lead with only a minute to go. With only seconds on the clock, Luke drove to the basket and went for a jump shot. During this shot he was pushed from behind which unfortunately was not spotted as a foul. Lukes shot just missed but his teammate took the rebound and scored a lay up. The SW team were ahead for the first time and the Germans started to panic. With only seconds on the game clock left, the German point guard dribbled the ball to the half way line and tried an ambitious long range shot to score 3 points. The buzzer sounded and the basketball just missed. Phew... the SW team won the match 32 -31. The bench lept to their feet and celebrated a well deserved win.
Needless to say the German team where a bit disappointed but it was a great match to watch. Luke eventually got home during the snowy conditions after his flight detoured from Gatwick to Liverpool Airport, a coach trip was then made back to Gatwick Airport and a further long drive back home to Torbay.

20th Dec 2009 - Good away win for the Under 16 Torbay Tigers against the Shroud Sharks
The Under 16 Torbay Tigers had a good away win against the Shroud Sharks at the Thomas Keble School near Cirencester (about a 2.30hr drive). The Shroud Sharks started the match very strong, putting lots of pressure onto the U16 Tigers team. The Tigers finished the 1st Qtr 15 - 9 down which gave coach Rob Rudling a chance to regroup and change tactics. The Tigers started the 2nd Qtr much stronger, matching the sharks physical intensity and work rate. Jordon Coysh and Charlie Tripp were playing particular well with some excellent interplay between James Murray-Smith and the wingers. The 2nd Qtr finished with the Tigers only 2 down 27 - 25.
Recent team free-throw practice was now starting to pay-off with the players starting to consistently score and convert their free-throws into points. A further change in tactics saw the Tigers finishing the 3rd quarter with a lead of 40-35.
The 4th and last quarter saw the Tigers team maintain their high work rate and steadily increase their lead, winning the match 63 -49.
